What can COVID-19 teach us about ourselves

Coronavirus Disease, or COVID-19, has been a burning issue for quite some time now. It first appeared in Wuhan, China, in December 2019 and since then, the Coronavirus has spread to a lot of countries on different continents. The virus is extremely contagious and simple contact with an infected person can turn you into a person carrying the infection. Having in mind that a lot of Chinese people like travelling around the world and that a lot of people go to China on business or on holiday, it is no wonder that the attempts to contain the virus within China have not been very successful.

When serious problems happen in the world, such as a threat of a pandemic, we can learn a lot about human nature. Yes – it may explain why we decided go back to playing video games (or board games with our families), or used offers like the Solverde código promocional, built pillow fortresses, or started baking – but most of all, it may explain why we are the way we are.

Laughing in the face of danger

It seems that modern generations of people have a peculiar way of dealing with life-threatening situations which can be regarded as laughing in the face of danger. When there was a serious conflict between the USA and Iran, people made a lot of memes with this theme and turned the danger of the third world war into a laughable thing. If you thought that the coronavirus would be taken more seriously, you are wrong. You can find tons of memes about the Coronavirus on the internet and more and more are popping out every day.

On the one hand, there is nothing wrong with being positive and choosing to look at the bright side of life. Sometimes there is no better way of dealing with a difficult situation than by not worrying too much about it.

On the other hand, we should not go to extremes. We should remember that a lot of people have died from the Coronavirus and that their families and loved ones see nothing funny about the deadly virus.

Social media enable us to get a lot of information about all sorts of things happening around the world, but they do not always help us to sympathize with the people affected by serious problems.

The positive effects of social media

Although social media cannot make all people sympathize with people in need, they can surely help in a lot of ways. Social media enable people to stay connected and join efforts more easily. On social media, people can share useful information about how to protect ourselves from the Coronavirus. They can raise money for the treatment of sick people or for the construction of health care facilities. Lastly, people can give emotional support to those who are suffering from the disease or who are worried about it.

All in all, it can be concluded that COVID-19 can teach us that when we are united, there is nothing that can defeat us. We can choose to see something positive in every negative situation and make jokes and memes to make us feel better, but what is really important is that we share our resources to help each other.
